Answer: Let me begin by using the following quotes to emphasis the literature in the field that bears out that through education of women and girls there can be significant change in the live of not only the girls and women but the entire community as well. One of the strongest traditions in the areas where we work is the idea that sons should be educated first because they will return the investment by taking care of the family. Girls are married at an early age and move to their husbands family, hence less likely to bring in any monetary income to the parents. The incentive to educate her and use scant resources is diminished or non existent.
To Love Children is working to create sustainable girl child education through the promotion of women micro enterprise development projects. We can see no better advocate for the girl child.
"There can be no significant or sustainable transformation in societies and no significant reduction in poverty until girls receives the quality basic education they need to take their rightful place as equal partners in development." Carol Bellamy, UNICEF, Executive
"To educate a girl is to educate a whole family." UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan
