Ten Steps in order to educate for economic literacy

Focus on the personal skills necessary for financial literacy

(Source Junior Achievement—Personal Economics)

1.       The children recognize their role in providing financial support to the family and are introduced to the skills necessary for marketing themselves.

2.       Skills, talents, interests are identified in each child and how it relates to possible job creation. They realize they have choices and pursue their individual strengths in the marketplace.

3.       Job and work opportunities are explored and home businesses are discussed.

4.       Verbal skills are enhanced and practiced in order to create better means of communicating to the marketplace.

5.       Budgets are introduced so the concept of saving, and allotting resources so that there are few shortages of capital by learning planning and the characteristics of all budgets.

6.       Family Resources are discussed and the students learn to maximize the strengths and needs of the priorities of the family in order to plan for expected expenses and income.

7.       Paying Bills are introduced so that the students do not become debtors.

8.       Credit and borrowing are discussed for the advantages and disadvantages in order to grow the home business and the student’s ability to grow and expand on their skills in creating financial wealth.

9.       Investments are introduced to the students to explore the value of money and how to grow their own wealth.

10.   International world marketplace is introduced and various means to enter and compete in a global society.

Without economic literacy children in the global south are condemned to live the same lives their parents have led and the cycle of poverty stays unbroken. It is vital to introduce at an early age these important concepts in order to give the skills and understanding of how to create financial security.

Girls need to be educated in their choices and to open the possibilities through education. An educational system that teaches practical and survival skills is just the first step on the ladder of education. The need for educating children in economic literacy is self evident as it gives the children the needed vocabulary and tools to lift themselves out of poverty.

Purpose:   www.tolovechildren.org

"To take action that supports the education of the girl child in the developing world."

Our website supports the work of children and teachers researching summits, conventions, forums, declarations, issues, non-governmental organizations, and  children advocates that is based on the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

In particular:

To support schools as well as community groups and civic leaders that need to not only research issues concerning girl children and education, but also to provide the critical thinking tools necessary in order to understand the complexity of this issue.

To freely share resources, information, expertise and experience on issues relating to girl child education including the issues of boy children, health, environment and security. This  will enable children and educators to start a grassroots campaign by teaching children how to follow through with their research to create practical solutions to the real world.

Message from the Founder

David Kenneth Waldman

“To the many deserving children without a voice

On Reflection: Advocating for girl education

The first question is “Why Girls?” and the answer now said out of rote and practice is that out of the 130 million children in the world without access to an elementary education 2/3 are girls. Simple and direct answer but do the boys get left behind. Like all movements to grant civil rights to those that have been denied granting access to ensuring human basic rights as granted in the Convention on the Rights of the Child allows for all children the world over to be given the same equal rights. Boys need to be taught gender awareness, health, water and security issues dealt with and cultural attitudes changed in order to successfully grant access to girls denied a basic education.

To Love Children International will conduct a speak up/speak out program in order to create an sustainable campaign that will make all institions public and private, business and educational sectors as well as individuals the world over to make people aware of the need and benefits of educating girls along with boys. Our goal is at times for a new NGO overwhelming in scope and we will start this program by taking steps to build our grassroots supports. For more information email me at davidkwaldman@msn.com
