A message from the Founder: On July 25, 2003 To Love Children Educational Foundation reached an important milestone in its young history. We celebrated our first anniversary as a non-governmental organization. As I write this message I am sitting at the airport about to start my journey to India to implement our Girl International Resource Learning educational program (G.I.R.L.).

This educational outreach will inaugrate the first ever Children’s Library and Educational Resource Center for 10 rural villages in the state of Andhra Pradesh, 40 kilometers from Visakhapatnam. We will be able to create an educational development program with skill training and resources for over 2,000 children. Our partner Shantidhara Social Service Society will work with their women staff to train the children and woman leaders and mothers wanting to get the education and skills that will help break their cycle of poverty.

Education needs opportunity as water needs a dam, in order to channel its; energy. There are artists, teachers, prime ministers, scientists, inventors and mathematicians to name a few fields right here with these children scattered through ten villages. It is my intention to use our newsletter as a forum to better acquaint you with our mission and goals in order to gain volunteers and sponsors. Poverty is everywhere in India, and the cycle of poverty repeats itself. We can make a difference.

To Love Children mission is to: To Love Children Educational Foundation International is dedicated to sustainable educational development for girl children in the Global South. We are committed in actively assisting girls in achieving their highest potential by providing equal access to educational resource centers and supporting mentoring programs, including curricular and skills training relevant for the increasing of local educational, economic and health resources.

I invite you to come join us and find out how you can contribute in making a difference.

July 25-August 22, 2003     Educational Outreach to India

To Love Children Educational Foundation International Founder David Kenneth Waldman has traveled to India to open the first children’s library and educational resource center with their Indian partner Shantidhara Social Service Society. We provided in this first stage of educational development, 200 books including a media, literature, reference, general knowledge section that will directly impact the lives of over 2,000 children.

Our Girl International Resource Learning educational program will train a staff of 10 women in order for them to be able to reach and teach the children in the villages surrounding the library. The children are resource deprived and with access to these educational materials along with a skills training program we can help support children in their quest to stay in school and reach a secondary education.

“Changing education perspectives at the grassroots”

The educational resource center will also act as a place with women can learn new skills and learn how to better cooperate with the established women’s group that works together with a saving plan and to overcome common challegnes that face their children.

As part of this educational Outreach To Love Chidlren partnered also with Empower the Children to establish a library in a school of 1,800 girls in Calcutta (Kokata) This donation allowed needed new books to come to a library with bare shelves. This school founded in 1954 has a successful record to gaining access for girl students to higher education.

On Reflection: Advocating for girl education  “To the many deserving children without a voice”

The first question is “Why Girls?” and the answer now said out of rote and practice is that out of the 130 million children in the world without access to an elementary education 2/3 are girls. Simple and direct answer but girls get left behind and in order to create sustainable change and improve poverty, educating girls is the most cost effective solution supported by UNICEF and numerous international movements and nations. Like all movements that seek to grant  rights to those that have been denied we support as granted in the Convention on the Rights of the Child for all children the world over to be given the same equal educational rights. Education of girls and women improve health and financial conditions of the entire family and creates a more stable environment. An important benefit in a post 9/11 environment where we all seek democratic solutions to the problems we all face.
